Creating Morning Rhythms That Improve Our Day
Life can become so busy that we unintentionally leave little room for stillness. Before long, our days are filled with responsibilities, and our souls begin to feel weary.
God never intended for us to live at a frantic pace. He invites us into a life marked by peace, rest, and intentional rhythms that keep us connected to Him. In this entry, we will address morning rhythms.
Simple daily habits, beginning the day with prayer, spending time in Scripture, practicing gratitude, and embracing moments of quiet, can transform our hearts and strengthen our faith. These rhythms are not about checking off another item on a to-do list. They are about creating space to hear God’s voice and experience His presence. They are about treating our minds and bodies the way our Creator designed them to thrive and function.
Where does your mind go when you wake up? Does it rush to the day's necessities, feeling overwhelmed before your feet even hit the floor? In a recent women’s course that I am leading, one of the younger ladies shared that the first thing she does in the morning is speak aloud, “Good Morning, Jesus.” She said it sets the tone for her day. Within a few days, other women in our course were sending emails sharing how they were greeting Jesus in the morning, and were encouraged by how effective this interaction with The Lord was for their mornings. Setting our minds on Truth, immediately upon waking, helps put our brain chemistry on the right track.
Many doctors and instructors recommend starting our days with electrolytes to replenish what we use and lose overnight. If you have questions about this, consult with your medical provider. Electrolytes can help support hydration and muscle function. We are the temple of Christ’s Spirit, and caring for it brings glory to God and equips us to better serve Him and others.When we start our day with at least twenty minutes of natural light, setting our screens aside, we establish an important rhythm that affects the rest of our day and into the night. What we do with the first few minutes of our day plays an important role in our circadian rhythm and the quality of our sleep. Throughout God’s Word we see a call to morning stillness with The Lord. Jesus, Himself, got up in the mornings and went to a quiet place to be with The Father.
Choosing to eat protein in the morning helps stabilize blood sugar, satisfy our appetite, and sustain energy levels for the day. In the Old Testament, we read about lentils, beans, wheat, and barley. Meat protein was an important part of significant celebrations. Protein in the morning with a heart of thanksgiving equips our bodies for the day ahead.
When coaching, I often find people are surprised by how implementing healthy morning routines changes how they feel emotionally, spiritually, and physically for the rest of the day. Start small. Making a few intentional morning improvements with God each day can have a lasting and transformational impact.
Remember, spiritual growth is not built in a day; it is built in the faithful rhythms of everyday life. God is not a hard taskmaster. He is a loving Father who enjoys us starting our days with Him.
Enjoy Jesus today!
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He got up, went out, and made His way to a deserted place;
and there He was praying.”
