Everyday Life For Tomorrow’s Victories

What if your everyday life is preparing you for future victories? Is it possible that your daily duties are the weapons through which God will work miracles?

Are your daily tasks becoming skilled weapons in God's hands?

We often look at David as a small, unskilled boy who sat on a hill playing musical melodies for his sheep and God. We skip by his rugged work and the skills he practiced in the wild as a defensive shepherd. David’s work required him to protect the flocks from wild animals and predators.

David’s sling wasn’t a child’s toy. It was a powerful weapon in the hands of an expert slingman used against wild animals and enemy forces. Slings were often used as weapons by armies of Biblical times. Out of necessity, David was becoming proficient in what God would use to save a nation and place him near the position he would one day hold. God gave David the boldness to stand against a giant, but God used what David had become skilled in. God was preparing David long before his day in front of Goliath.

Being a shepherd was the lowest position in their culture. No one expected a shepherd to become a hero. No one knew that God would prepare a shepherd to become a king. Yet, as David sat with God in worship while watching over the flocks with his useful slingshot skills, God was preparing David for the unthinkable. Being a young shepherd was so lowly that when Samual came to meet Jesse’s sons, David was completely overlooked. He was out living in his daily routine. His anointing was unexpected.

God is able to do far more than we can imagine. - Ephesians 3:20

What is God preparing you for as you live your daily life? What skills are being sharpened in your current positions? Are you expanding your level of patience? Are you fine-tuning gifts in music, art, communication, teaching, or public relations? Do you find yourself handling trials with greater faith? Maybe you’re taking on new levels of responsibility. Maybe you are raising little ones and sharing the Gospel in ways that bring their faith alive. Whatever you are doing today, you can do it with the knowledge that it has purpose not only today, but also for the future.

Your everyday tasks are preparing you for the next thing. Your routine might seem uneventful right now, but it is building the skills God has ordained for your life. He will bless you and use you for His glory during your behind-the-scenes season, but He is also building you to face future giants with great victory. In those victories, God will expand the territory for your testimony. He will bring you to a new season of opportunity and faith.

Embrace your current season knowing that, like David, it has great purpose today. Like David, your season is building skill and faith for future assignments and endeavors.

Your current season has great purpose.

For a refreshing activity, sit quietly with The Lord and ask Him to show you the skills He is building in you through your daily tasks. Write them down and date them. Give thanks for them, and rejoice in God’s providence for your life.

Enjoy Jesus today.
